SHAWANO - A competency hearing has been ordered for a Shawano man accused of killing his ex-wife by setting fire to her house.

Michael Schutt is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of 49-year-old Dawn Schutt.

Authorities said she collapsed only steps from the door and died of smoke and soot inhalation in the August fire. Her 18-year-old son, Zachary, escaped and was treated at a hospital for burns to his face and hand. Michael Schutt also faces charges of attempted homicide and arson.
